Here are some links to songs I've either recorded or helped record. Most of these were done in conjunction with Songfight, an online community of independent musicians.
| Heaven
Knows I'm Miserable Now |
Apr. 2008 | This was my entry for the Smiths cover project on Songfight. |
| Part of Your Body is Made Out of Rock | Jan. 2008 | For the 2007 Gift of Music I did a little sendup of this song by the now-defunct band Piebald. |
| Hangin' Round | Sept. 2007 | Songfight produced a Velvet Underground/Lou Reed coverfight, and this was my entry |
| My Sharona | Jan. 2007 | A cover of the Knack standard for the 2006 Gift of Music, featuring an extended guitar solo from a Boston Songfighter by the name of Boltoph |
| Ain't No Good | Feb. 2006 | A Cake cover and supplementary 2005 Gift of Music entry done for a guy who got stiffed by his original gifter |
| Hungry Freaks, Daddy | Jan. 2006 | This Frank Zappa cover was my original entry for the 2005 Gift of Music. |
| Sexy Dancer | Dec. 2007 | A rather intricate Songfight side project called "Purple
Reign" involved poking fun at Prince and his eagerness to enforce his IP
rights. We did this by creating a whole
slew of original songs with the same titles as Prince songs. Click here to listen to Glenn Case explain Purple Reign in more detail. |
| The Pawnbroker's Stepdaughter | Apr. 2007 | We did this for a "hxaro" project, where Songfight people get together to record covers of another Songfight artist. This project featured the music of Phil Redmon, aka Abominominous |
| Ten Lies | Apr. 2007 | Yes, those are real hand farts. Written and recorded on April Fools Day, 2007. |
| Not Exactly Normal | Nov. 2006 | This song was originally recorded by the prolific Songfight band WreckdoM, which we polkafied for the Total Request Coverfight |
| Viet Nam | May 2006 | Someone on Songfight started a Barry Manilow cover project. Some of us weren't too keen on that idea, so we did Minutemen covers instead. Recorded on Memorial Day, 2006 |
| Back From Brazil | Nov. 2005 | Another hxaro project, this one featuring the music of Glenn Case |
| Harry the Head | July 2005 | A Residents cover done for the Residents/Presidents side fight. Our friends Jami (aka Morbid Morgan) and Cass (aka Freudian Slip) supply vocals |
| Pasty White Man | Apr. 2005 | A Songfight entry about Mr. Stay Puft from Ghostbusters. Some people actually, uh, liked it and stuff |
| Glass Eye | Mar. 2005 | An Octothorpe cover, performed live at the Sound Arena rehearsal studio in Hollywood in March of '05 |
| (I'm) Stranded | Jan. 2005 | A Saints cover done for the 2004 Gift of Music |
| Gin or Ginseng | Aug. 2004 | My second Songfight entry, this one was a bit more well received than the first. But not much |
| The Chair We Share | June 2004 | My first Songfight entry, an ill-fated attempt to bring levity to the issue of capital punishment |
| Boundaries | Oct. 2005 | This Songfight entry got a whopping six votes, a personal record. I think all the votes came from our relatives |
| Adonai | Apr. 2006 | A highly regarded Songfighter called Starfinger was working with a girl from his church named Rachel, recording a Christian-themed song she had written, and asked for drumming help. So, here I am playing drums and bass on their recording. |
| The Price
Is Right Don't Break My Heart Again, George Lucas I Know My Rights Pencil Me In Oversleeping |
Here I am playing bass for Tex Beaumont and the Dirty
Hearts. Tex Beaumont is actually Caravan Ray from Australia. Pat is on
harmonica and percussion, along with Songfight stalwarts Ken (drums), King
Arthur (guitar), and Dre (trumpet). YouTube videos courtesy of Glenn Case. |
| Pasty
White Man The Truth About Aspartame Feet El Balazo |
Here is the set Pat, Cass and I played together as Primitive
Screwheads. "Feet" features Spud (of Octothorpe) on bass.
"El Balazo" is an Octothorpe song, for which we were joined by Ken
and King Arthur. YouTube videos courtesy of Glenn Case. |
| All
Tan (John Benjamin Band) All Tan (Primitive Screwheads) |
The event ended with a "live fight" - performances of brand new original songs, all of which were called "All Tan." I played on two entries - bass for John Benjamin Band, and guitar for the Screwheads. |
| Going to Quakeland | May 2003 | A parody of Dead Milkmen's "Going to Graceland", about the computer game Quake 3 Arena |
| Tyde | Aug. 1990 | My first music recording ever, done on my old 6-track recorder with a guitar, a cheap keyboard and some ocean noises I got off the radio |
