View Article  "Violent and Funky" - Infectious Grooves

I loved the first two Infectious Grooves releases, The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move... (1991) and Sarsippius' Ark (1993).  At some point I happened to catch the video for "Violent and Funky", from a brand new album called Groove Family Cyco (1994).  I didn't even know they had a new record out, and I really dug the song, so naturally I picked it up posthaste.

Sweet Jeezus, was that album awful.  It stunk so much I think it literally made my room smell bad.  "Is there a dead rat in here?", my roommate inquired.

That song still kicks, though.

Click here to watch the video for "Violent and Funky" on YouTube.  Yes, that is indeed bassist Robert Trujillo, now with Metallica.

This is part of a week-long series on songs I like from albums I don't like.

It must have happened to you at some point.  You hear a kickass song on the radio, or on <insert musical medium of choice>.  You rush right out at top speed to purchase the album said song came from on <insert musical format of choice>.  It turns out that the rest of it is one big steaming <insert euphemism of choice for something that completely lacks merit>.  You get so frustrated you want to club yourself over the head with a <insert blunt instrument of choice>.

So all this week on the MSaD, I will "celebrate" such ill-fated album purchases by posting songs I like - from albums I don't.

Introduction
Some of my online cohorts at the Songfight community decided to create blogs to highlight songs they like. I am now doing it as well, because I am a total lemming.

Songfight is a weekly songwriting competition based on titles provided by the site's administrators. I post there under the handle "Albatross." Go check it out. It's a gas.
My Own Noise
Can't sing my way out of a wet paper bag, but I play a few instruments with varying degrees of proficiency. As such, sometimes I record my own music. You can hear it here.

Latest song: "Take Five" (Dave Brubeck Quartet cover)
