10,000 Maniacs, to me at least, represent a lot of failed potential.  It seemed like every album of theirs that I listened to had one or two really inspired tracks and a whole lot of abject boredom.  "Can't Ignore the Train" was great, but The Wishing Chair (1985) put me to sleep.  Blind Man's Zoo (1989) had "You Happy Puppet", "Eat For Two" and a bunch of cures for insomnia.

But the album that fits that mold more than any other is 1987's In My Tribe.  I love "What's the Matter Here?" more than life itself.  The rest of it?  <ZZZZZZZ>
