If you really do ask me what my favorite album of all time is, and I don't pick the first Bungle record, I very well might pick Faith No More's 1992 release Angel Dust.  Yep, my top 2 all time, different bands, same lead singer, recorded less than a year apart.  Boo.  Yah.

Even though it outsold The Real Thing in nearly every other part of the world, it fell well short of its predecessor's sales in the US.  I remember finding many used copies of this title in music stores that sold used CDs, which seemed to indicate that a lot of people bought it hoping for another "Epic" - and didn't get it.  That makes sense, because Angel Dust is a markedly different album   FNM seemed all but ready to reach unprecedented mainstream popularity by locking into a successful formula.  Instead, they flushed said formula into the toilet and produced one of the most experimental and influential albums of the 90's.

Which is, of course, one reason why I'm so crazy about it.  It doesn't just work as an amazing group of songs, it works as a concept.  There are so many great tracks to pick from, but I'm going with "Everything's Ruined."

This is part of a week-long series on Mike Patton's best known bands, Mr. Bungle and Faith No More.
