I discussed my initial exposure to the Doobie Brothers in a previous post.  It was another example of "Dad music", just something my father liked when I was little and I didn't really appreciate until I was well into adulthood.  Well, seeing as how it's Train Week, it seemed like a good time to post what has become probably my top Doobies track of all - "Long Train Runnin'", from 1973's The Captain and Me.  It's just one of those meticulously arranged, perfect-sounding 70s classic rock songs that remains timeless as long as you don't let classic rock radio ruin it for you.

It's just too bad Tom Johnston had to leave the band when he did.  I thought the Michael McDonald incarnation of the Doobies, for lack of a better term, sucked hard donkeys.  But that's just my opinion.

Hear "Long Train Runnin'" on YouTube.

This is part of week-long series on songs about trains.
