Quite a few years ago, during a work day, I happened upon a Shoutcast stream that was playing nothing but novelty songs. One of the tunes was an infectious little ditty called "Steve", about a transvestite named Steve.  I went nuts for it.  Upon further research, I discovered that the chaps responsible were a Michigan-and-later-Chicago-based band called the Ghettobillies.  If I were to concoct some cheezy descriptive buzzword purely for marketing purposes, I say something like "redneck folk funk."

Their first CD is called Some Reseev, which contains "Steve."  It also has songs about the following:  the TV show "CHiPS", washing dog crap off of a boot, a one-legged girl, Sea Monkeys, and the experience of watching a porno for the first time.  What high art.

Their next album goes by the name of Butterface (2000).  One of it's highlights is a tune called "Line Dance Champion", and it's about, er, winning a line dance competition.

I just learned that the band is calling it quits and are about to play their last two shows in England.  Wah.

Download "Line Dance Champion" from the band's website.
