"Dogs" - Pink Floyd

A sort of unofficial "animals" theme has evolved as a result of yesterday's, er, discussion. So, here is a track from an album called Animals, released by Pink Floyd in 1977. Yep, here it is, "Dogs." All seventeen minutes of it. YouTube fanvid for "Dogs" - Part 1 - Part 2

OK, Pat suggests I stick with the pig theme from yesterday. So here is a favorite cover from a long time favorite band - Faith No More's version of Sabbath's "War Pigs." YouTube fanvid for "War Pigs"YouTube live performance

"Piggies" - Oingo Boingo
by
Max
on Sun 20 Apr 2008 01:23 PM PDT
Yesterday I posted a link to a clip from Boingo's farewell concert, which took place on Halloween night in 1995. That show was released on both CD and video the following year as Farewell: Live from the Universal Amphitheatre, and it featured several previously unreleased songs. "Piggies" was one of them. The group, of course, disbanded immediately after this performance. The musical universe hasn't been the same since. YouTube live performance of "Piggies" from the Farewell showThis

"Insanity" - (Oingo) Boingo

After they were booted from the MCA label, Oingo Boingo officially shortened their name to Boingo, reshuffled their lineup, and put out a self-titled album on Giant Records in 1994. It's opener, "Insanity", isn't so much a song. It's an experience. Oh, you may notice that I did not post a track from Dark at the End of the Tunnel (1990). There's a simple reason for that. That album sucked. "We Close Our Eyes" - Oingo Boingo

This uplifting little number was originally released on 1987's BOI-NGO, which I felt was a bit sub-par. Then in 1988, the band put out Boingo Alive, a 10th anniversary album recorded live on a sound stage with no audience. I liked that version a lot better. In fact, pretty much every track from BOI-NGO that they remade for Alive bested its studio counterpart. Both versions are on YouTube, so here they are, including another one of those anime fanvids. Man, those are all over the place. YouTube fan-made video for the original studio version of "We Close Our Eyes"YouTube fan-made video for the Boingo Alive versionThis

"Stay" - Oingo Boingo
by

on Thu 17 Apr 2008 01:15 PM PDT
I've always had a soft spot for this track from 1985's Dead Man's Party. It was probably the closest thing to a love ballad Boingo ever did. Since it was right about the time when rock "ballads" usually involved a lot of hair, G chords and tight-fitting clothing, I found it oddly refreshing. Music video for "Stay" on YouTubeThis

"Nothing Bad Ever Happens" - Oingo Boingo

Good for Your Soul (1983) is one of my all-time top-tenners. I've loved this album so much for so long it's not even funny. Any track from it would be a primo choice, but since they made an official video for "Nothing Bad Ever Happens" and it's readily available, I'm picking it. I was privileged to actually perform the final track from this album, "Little Guns", during my recent Songfight tour. The Seattle-based band Octothorpe ("Spud", one of Songfight's administrators, is in this group) recorded their own version for a Boingo tribute album, and since they were unable to complete the tour with their full lineup, I got to fill in on bass guitar. That was a treat indeed. Music video for "Nothing Bad Ever Happens" on YouTubeSpokane, WA live performance of "Little Guns" by Octothorpe (and yours truly)This

As strong as Nothing to Fear (1982) is, if I had a gun to my head and had to pick a favorite from it, it would probably be "Insects." No other band could make grating, irritating bug noises sound so FUN-KAY! Fan-made YouTube video for "Insects"This

Introduction
Some of my online cohorts at the Songfight community decided to create blogs to highlight songs they like. I am now doing it as well, because I am a total lemming.
Songfight is a weekly songwriting competition based on titles provided by the site's administrators. I post there under the handle "Albatross." Go check it out. It's a gas.
My Own Noise
Can't sing my way out of a wet paper bag, but I play a few instruments with varying degrees of proficiency. As such, sometimes I record my own music. You can hear it here.
Latest song: "Take Five" (Dave Brubeck Quartet cover)
