View Article  "Shout" - Tears for Fears

First off, I'd like to state for the record that I do not hate Tears for Fears.  I've liked every song I've heard from The Hurting (1983).  I even kinda like some of the tracks from Songs From the Big Chair (1985), like "Head Over Heels" and "Mother's Talk."

"Shout", however, is just one big fat steaming pile.  It genuinely irritates me that this was certainly one of if not their biggest hit, knowing full well they were (and are) capable of so much better.

If you must, watch the video for "Shout" on YouTube.

This is part of a week-long series on songs I hate.

Very simple and succinct theme this week - I'm posting songs I hate.

I don't mean songs that serve as mild annoyances or meager irritants, I mean songs that generate passionate, searing, tangible hatred.  Songs that make me reach for a remote control button within the first couple of notes.  Songs that leave me dumbfounded as to how some people even get recording contracts when I personally know people who can do better.  Songs that make me wonder how people even waste significant amounts of time listening to them, which is saying something coming from me, because I'm about the laziest bastard alive.  I can waste time like a sumbitch.

Yes, it's my own personal musical hell.  And y'all get to hear it.

Introduction
Some of my online cohorts at the Songfight community decided to create blogs to highlight songs they like. I am now doing it as well, because I am a total lemming.

Songfight is a weekly songwriting competition based on titles provided by the site's administrators. I post there under the handle "Albatross." Go check it out. It's a gas.
My Own Noise
Can't sing my way out of a wet paper bag, but I play a few instruments with varying degrees of proficiency. As such, sometimes I record my own music. You can hear it here.
