More like *I* be illin'. Big time. At some point on Tuesday I got totally flattened by something and became a bed-ridden fat hairy lump of bones for two days straight. I was so sick I couldn't even get out of bed to do, well, anything.
So now I'm somewhat functional and feel compelled to put up this Run-D.M.C. track. I had just started my senior year in high school when Raising Hell broke out in 1986. And boy, did it break out. Everybody was into this. It reached the point where it even invaded everyday conversation - people would routinely begin a sentence with "one day I was chillin'" and the like. As with any high school musical trend, I would just stand there and wonder - do you genuinely like this stuff, or do you only listen to it because you think it's required of you?
It never really affected me directly until some buddies and I put a little band together. We called ourselves The 3:15's. That's when school got out. God, we were terrible. We would play for the student body as a whole, for homecoming rallies and such. Thankfully, a few of the guys in the band were much more popular than me so no one came down on us too hard for being awful. And as you've probably guessed by now, one of the songs we played was "You Be Illin'." Of course, we played it very badly, but it still seemed to go over pretty well.
Ah, the joys of popularity. Or in my case, popularity by association.
