Now the iPod wants to get its thrash on.

You know those bootleg Russian MP3 download sites?  There are/were a whole bunch of them.  The URLs all end in ".ru" and you can get songs for around nine cents a pop.  They have these long, detailed disclaimers about how legit they are and how they're wholly on the up and up.  Oh, puh-lease.

Nonetheless, I used one once.  I was desperate to find a particular song, and that seemed to be the only way to get it.  OK, I'll confess - the song was "Soft Core", which would later become the very first song ever posted here.  So I gave this seedy MP3 service ten bucks, and I snagged a CRAPLOAD of stuff.  A tenner goes a long way when you're only ponying up anywhere from seven to eleven cents per track.

Included in that haul was the 2006 Slayer album Christ Illusion in its entirety.  Comparing it to the genre-defining Reign in Blood seems pointless, but it's still a pretty cool record all things considered.

It appears as if the Russian web site I used no longer exists, but there are still plenty of them.  Don't go there, though.  Go to Amazon or iTunes where you belong.

Hear "Catatonic" on YouTube.

This is part of a two week-long series on songs chosen at random by my iPod.
